Sunrise Sundog

Probably the coldest photo I’ve ever taken! I was amazed as I reached the top of Slumgullion Pass, and saw this incredible sundog appearing in the eastern sky. I’ve seen sundogs several times before, but never this pronounced and vivid. ⠀ ⠀ I immediately found a spot to park and looked for something other than the road to put in front of the sky. Options on that front are rather slim on Slumgullion these days with the forest dying out and being cut down, but these few young living trees being nearly covered in snow and their shadows seemed like a good option. ⠀ ⠀ Problem, they were quite a ways off the road. It was -12F, with more wind than I’d prefer, and turns out the snow was waist deep, but I still made it! Was it worth it? Of course it was, what else can one do at 7 am on a morning that cold? ⠀.
