Before this, the sky was almost all grey and dull. I almost called it a day, but decided just to sit and wait, mainly to avoid heading home. About twenty minutes in some light broke through the clouds, and I knew I had made the right decision to stay out, but I was in the wrong spot. After a quick relocation to another nearby spot, this was the scene. The entire western sky had exploded in color over the Rio Grande Pyramid and the rest of the Weminuche on the distant horizon. The color burned bright and last a long time, leaving the clouds purple well into twilight.
