Back in October I took a trip north to Wyoming, and after some skillful eavesdropping, I heard another photographer mention a good place to see a lot of moose while photographing another moose. So before dawn the next day I headed out, and sure enough, there were quite a few moose there! Actually, about 10 in the immediate area! I couldn’t get an exact count because they were all over! I was photographing this one lone bull when with a sniff of the air, he got that look he was about to be up to something. He was. He walked from the middle of the meadow to the tree line to challenge another bull, who was courting a cow. The two squared up, and dueled with a crash of antlers that sounded like a tree snapping in the wind. After a brief but fierce back and forth, the bull I was following lost. He was sent fleeing through the trees. The victorious bull went back to courting the cow, and scaring off a smaller bull with ease for good measure. After all the morning excitement, they laid down next to each other. That’s where I left them. I decided to come back that night, hoping things would be more exciting. They would be, at least he was.
