American Basin is a high-alpine treasure in the heart of the San Juan Mountains along Cinnamon Pass. Snow patches linger into the late summer on American Peak while columbines grow in numbers in the tundra below. Being here reminds me how important it is to tread lightly. Pack out trash, stay on trails, and respect the fragile alpine environment.
