Bluebirds quickly became one of my favorite animals and a model on how to live life. They are the neon blue flashes you’ll see take off from fence posts and in high meadows. They bring with them spring, sun, and happiness, as their blue brilliance comes from how their feathers reflect the light. When the insects they prey upon die out in the autumn frosts, Mountain Bluebirds know it’s time to start looking for a winter range, and I know it’s time to either follow, or hunker down and await the winter blues to brighten into neon blue bursts with their return.
