Pot of Gold

Grand Teton National Park

I was sitting in Lake City trying to plan a last minute trip somewhere just to get out. I couldn’t get excited about anything in Colorado when a perfectly timed message from a friend asked if I wanted to come explore in the Tetons. The thought of seeing owls, wolves, grizzlies, and different mountains was the spark I needed. Car was packed within the hour, and I was headed north!

I questioned my decision the entire way up there since I definitely can’t afford all the gas and to be away from the gallery, but the second I saw the welcome to Wyoming sign, I knew I had made the right call. None of my concerns mattered. This is where I needed to be.

Flash forward to the next morning, I woke up to lightning flashes all around my 4runner that I was sleeping in at 4am during a storm that wasn’t in the forecast. After watching the lightning for an hour, I finally got out of bed. I thought for sure there was no hope of a good sunrise or anything but rain. I woke up and went anyway, because outside of sunrise and set I never have much going on. As I got to the spot, the eastern horizon was aglow and another storm was coming in. The mountains in the west had a faint glow, but I was sure the light would be blocked by clouds by the time the sun came up. It wasn’t though. The glorious alpenglow hit the Tetons, and over the next 30 minutes the sky lit up in ways I couldn’t even have imagined. This sky had it all. Pinks, blues, oranges, and golds. Everything was perfect, and then the rainbow appeared. It was an absolutely perfect and an unforgettable moment, and I was happy I was there to see it.
