Lupine Creek
Yellowstone National Park
The Lupine Creek pack is 9 wolves strong and when I found them (and all the wolf watchers) they were bedded down a hillside above the Yellowstone River. For about an hour they did almost nothing, then they ran off out of sight and I thought they were gone, but after another 20 or so minutes they came back, and grouped up on the hill and howled in unison. One of the coolest things I’ve ever seen and heard. I don’t actually have photos of this so I think I was too busy just enjoying their presence. Afterwards 4 of the wolves ran down to the banks of the river where they either had a kill or were scavenging something. The 4 grabbed a piece of the something and took off back up the hillside playing with the bit of bone where they joined the other 5 wolves, where they eventually ran off again out of sight.
