Miles of walking in a creek through sometimes chest deep water while scrambling up smaller waterfalls, I was rewarded by standing at the base of this waterfall. There was really no dry spot around so I set up my 5ft tripod in the 4ft water and took this photo. Insulated from the outside by rock walls that almost completely surround it, the roar of the falls was deafening, and the turquoise waters of the deep pool were numbingly cold, but it was all just incredible to see. Definitely worth the numb feet and achy everything from hiking hours in the water and over rocks.
Also I know I’m going to be asked so I’ll just go ahead and say I’m not sharing this location. Sorry, I know it’s disappointing, but I don’t think every location needs to be on the internet or easily accessible and known. I don’t think the falls have a name, and they don’t need one. There’s no trail here, and there doesn’t need to be one, nor does there need to be trash and bagged dog poop like there is in pretty much every spot I’ve been this year. This is actually the first hike I’ve been on this year where I haven’t picked up someone else’s trash, and it needs to stay that way. Not sharing locations helps, and besides, this page isn’t a guide. It’s just a place to see nature. When I see a photo like this on some other photographer’s page, I just enjoy seeing and knowing these places exist even though I may never see them in person. I hope you can too, and if you can’t, that’s ok too, but this page isn’t for you.
